Martha Baldwin and her Outdoor Garden elective class welcomed Jock Robie from Mainely Worm Bins for an engaging lesson on vermiculture. Not sure what vermiculture is? It is the practice of using worms, typically red wigglers, to decompose organic waste into nutrient-rich compost. This process, also known as worm farming, creates high-quality fertilizer called vermicompost or worm castings, which can be used to enrich soil for gardening and agriculture. Vermiculture is an eco-friendly method of recycling organic materials and reducing landfill waste.
